Device

A device is a unit of a computer system like keyboard, printer, floppy, harddisk or monitor.

A distinction is made between:

• Input devices: Keyboard, Joystick, Mouse, Lightpen, Scanner, Camera, etc.
• Output devices: Monitor (TV), Printer, Plotter, Speaker, etc.

and between:

• Internal devices: Devices inside a computer system like interface cartridges, floppy, harddisk, CD-, DVD- or Blue Ray disk.
• External devices (peripheral or peripheral device): Devices outside a computer system often with external power - often used on home computers or on very small modern computer systems like game consoles, tablets or smartphones.

  The most important input device for gamers or players: A joystick (Competition Pro 5000).

• 

  Output device: The matrix printer Commodore MPS-802 or VIC-1526.

  Color monitor: Commodore 1084.
