Jump to navigationJump to searchA device is a unit of a computer system like keyboard, printer, floppy, harddisk or monitor.
A distinction is made between:
- Input devices: Keyboard, Joystick, Mouse, Lightpen, Scanner, Camera, etc.
- Output devices: Monitor (TV), Printer, Plotter, Speaker, etc.
and between:
- Internal devices: Devices inside a computer system like interface cartridges, floppy, harddisk, CD-, DVD- or Blue Ray disk.
- External devices (peripheral or peripheral device): Devices outside a computer system often with external power - often used on home computers or on very small modern computer systems like game consoles, tablets or smartphones.
The most important input device for gamers or players: A joystick (Competition Pro 5000).
