Virgin Games was a famous British publisher that belonged to the Virgin Group. Today, the company operates under the name Avalon Interactive. As a publisher, Virgin Games helped many other game developers, such as Westwood, to achieve their breakthrough.

The company was founded in 1981 as a subsidiary of the Virgin Group under the name Virgin Games Ltd.

In 1987, the well-known budget publisher Mastertronic was taken over.

In 1994, the company was renamed Virgin Interactive. Former Managing Director Tim Chaney takes over the British studios in 1998.

The US studios are sold to Electronic Arts as part of the Westwood takeover. 1999 Virgin Games is taken over by Titus Interactive.

In May 2002, Chaney also takes over the Spanish offshoot “'Virgin Interactive España”'. The Spanish subsidiary is then spun off from Virgin.

On 1 July 2003, Virgin Interactive is renamed Avalon Interactive. Virgin Interactive España is thus the only publisher that continues to operate under the Virgin brand name.
