The MOS Technology 6564 was a video chip developed by MOS Technology in 1979. It was intended for use in the TOI (The Other Intellect) computer, a project by Commodore for a computer with advanced colour graphics and sound capabilities that ultimately didn't materialize. However, it faced significant challenges due to memory timing constraints. Specifically, it required very fast and expensive SRAM, which made it unsuitable for mass production.
Although the 6564 itself was not widely used, its features and design influenced the development of other chips, such as the VIC (Video Interface Chip) used in the Commodore VIC-20. In that sense, the 6564 contributed to advancements in video graphics capabilities for early home computers.
