GUC is the abbreviation of the German club GEOS User Club, which existed from 1986 to around 2006. It was founded by Jürgen Heinisch and Thomas Haberland in 1988 as GBr, and it united numerous regional subgroups. Some of these subgroups still exist independently today. In addition to the networking of GEOS users, its main focus was on the use of GEOS (and its successors) as an operating system on the C64/128, later on many computer systems, as well as the programming of GEOS applications.
In addition to the sale of official GEOS products, the association also published many GEOS applications and tools that make working with GEOS easier as PD or freeware. Additionally, there were also corresponding disc collections of clipart, fonts, additional drivers for new hardware, etc. for all computer systems used in the association, which could also be purchased by non-members for a small fee.
A highlight was the GEOS User Club Anniversary CD published in 1997, which bundled about 10 years (1988-1997) of club activity as a digital archive. As the focus at this time was on PC GEOS and GEOS for the C64/128 was no longer being developed further, a lot of software for GEOS C64/128 can be found on this CD.
