- A bug should not be confused with an Easter Egg which is a hidden feature intentionally inserted by a programmer, usually surreptitiously.
A software bug is an unexpected error software code execution. Use of this term to refer to unexpected software failures hails from the time when computers were extremely large and filled with dimly lit vacuum tubes. Moths and other insects being attracted to light would sometimes come into contact with an electrical circuit causing both the insect's demise and, often enough, an unexpected program failure.
