A MOS 6510 CPU

The CPU (Central Processing Unit), often simply referred to as the processor, is the part of the computer that processes sequences of instructions, such as those that form the operating system and application programs, as well as processing inputs from users and hardware. In some simple computers this will be the only processor, but in more complex machines it also co-ordinates other processors, such as those used for sound and graphics, in addition to performing its own functions.

The CPU used in the Commodore 64 is the MOS 6510.
