PROTEXT 80

ProText, Protext-64 or PROTEXT-80 is a professional word processing program that can process 80 characters per line, and as such only runs on computer systems in 80-character mode. It was developed by the British software company Arnor in the early 1980s and released in various versions until about 2005.

Note: There are similar C64 programs and word processors with the same names! But they have little in common with this word processor except for the name!

Versions

ProText was first released for the Commodore CBM series and then for the C128, and also for the Amstrad CPC. The C64 version can only also be used on a C64 in 80-character mode, which must be operated with an appropriate 80-character plug-in card.
Later versions are also available for the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, Acorn Archimedes and PC under MS-DOS.

PROTEXT-80 was also sold for the C64 as a bundle with 80 character cards:

• The Plus version of the EX 80 plug-in card from Jann Datentechnik already included the PROTEXT-80 word processor and cost about 248 DM (1985).
• The plug-in card 80-ZK-plus (198 DM) from Decam also included the word processor ProText and cost 298 DM (1985)

ProText as a normal program (single version) cost about 89 to 198 DM.

There were also some additions like the file management ProDat (German: ProDatei) and the address management ProAdress, which could also be used in combination with ProText.
