Painterboy is a promotional game for the Finnish company Tikkurila, which is a well known paint and varnish brand in Nordic countries, with the game being one of the first adventure games ever. The game is based on the '80s Finnish TV and radio commercial "Dad and Son". The goal of the game is to complete different painting jobs for customers. The game has three main phases:

First select the correct Tikkurila's paint.
Drive to the correct destination.
Lastly, paint a building and drive back to the starting location to get another task.

Phases

Selecting the correct paint for the next job is the key to success. After selecting paint the next task is the so-called driving mode where you navigate using the compass to the correct location, while avoiding getting run over by a train, hitting buildings or driving off the road. The target building shows up in the game map, highlighted with Tikkurila's logo. Once you have arrived at your destination it's time to paint the various sections in the current building. The player must avoid painting anything that shouldn't be painted, such as dogs, birds, the dad, and the girl next door. After completing a painting task or accidentally painting any undesired objects it's time to navigate back to the starting point to receive another task.

Music and some slight effects are simple but quite apposite. There is also small finnish word sample: "Poika"! which is in english: "Son"! or "Hey Boy"!

Car control in driving mode
